Custom work and it’s downfalls

I often discuss here what I love about doing custom pieces. I adore originality. My whole life has been against the pack.

When everyone has long hair I want short. When smokey eyes are in I go barren. I don’t carefully cultivate my look, it just comes. One of my greatest compliments ever received was that I had “the style and flair of Mick Jagger”.
I love Mick, thank you very much, he had always been against the grain himself.

I try to carry that thru in my art also. I actually search on Etsy prior to releasing pieces to ensure there is nothing similar.

So when someone requests a custom piece I adore that they wanted their own spin on it and I’m eager to please.

Unfortunately I’ve worked on three custom pieces lately, that never came thru. I’m not upset over the sales being in limbo, I just wish people would understand some things…..
I love honesty. If something comes up and you can’t afford the piece, I would work with that, or appreciate your honesty.
I take time out to do the piece. I’ve worked professionally as a graphic designer. I know what the hourly pricing (for NYC at least) is. I don’t charge extra for color or text customs….am I making a mistake with that?
So instead I’m releasing the prints this week and I’m going to put a clause in my customs page regarding it.
I actually almost feel guilty about releasing the pieces but I think waiting a month is long enough. The scales have to tip somehow.
Other then that little semi rant I’m off to push out some art and enjoy this beautiful fall day that’s sprung early in the Northeast.

And I feel yucky. Friday is my favorite day of the week next to Saturday and I think I like Saturdays best because I relate them to my cartoon marathons as a small fry.

Next week Sugar Shack will be releasing some sweet new art….maybe some large scale lomo prints which are coming by request from a lovely, lovely customer.

But I think I’ll be slowing my roll for the weekend. I have some meditations to catch up on and I’ve been working out daily for a month straight so I’m taking a weekend off to indulge in bubble baths, manicures and hopefully some sewing. (I’ll show ya what I whip up).

Other then that wishing you all an absolutely beautiful weekend full of peace, good loving and yummy delights!

Hard not to be amazed

By Mother Nature for me right now. As I sit on my back porch contemplating I spy the following….
a ring of white butterflies that are circling over a tremendous patch of yellow wildflowers.
Two cardinals (I have a family that lives back there) bouncing around on a spot where a tree once stood and is now a pile returning to the earth. (Fyi I didn’t cut out down it came like that when I purchased the house and I thought it would make a cool nature reserve lol).
A sweet itty hummingbird that is flapping away at his feeder.
All this chorused by softly chirping crickets and gentle tweeting of birds.
It’s like a yard full of magic and I feel lucky to have been able to notice it all.
We’re often so rushed we don’t take time to enjoy it. I’m so happy I caught it.

I have a love/hate affair with Winnie the Pooh, his sentimentality sometimes makes me blue ~ HOWEVER, I have always adored this line by Winnie author A.A. Milne and I thought it high time it get put on one of my prints:
